This privacy policy applies to the Mumble app for mobile devices, developed by Hisham Kherbouch. Mumble is a voice-first journaling app built with privacy at its core.
The short version
Mumble does not collect your data. Everything — voice recordings, transcripts, journal entries, AI reflections, and mood analysis — stays on your device. No account is required. No data is sent to any server. No third-party trackers. No analytics SDKs. You can verify this yourself: Mumble has no network requests to any backend.
What information does Mumble collect?
Nothing. Mumble does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on external servers. All data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework and iCloud is not used.
What data is stored on your device?
The following data is stored locally on your iPhone and never leaves it:
- Voice recordings (temporary, deleted after transcription)
- Journal entry transcripts
- AI-generated reflections
- Mood tags and analysis
- Your journaling preferences and streaks
- Subscription status (via Apple StoreKit)
On-device processing
All intelligent features run entirely on your device:
- Speech recognition — Powered by Apple's SFSpeechRecognizer with on-device recognition only. Audio is processed locally and never sent to Apple's servers.
- AI reflections — Generated using on-device keyword extraction and local analysis. No external AI APIs are called.
- Mood analysis — Performed locally using pattern matching on your transcripts.
Third-party services
Mumble uses one third-party service:
| Service | Purpose | Privacy Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Inc. | Processes in-app purchase and subscription payments via StoreKit. Apple's own SFSpeechRecognizer provides on-device speech recognition. | apple.com/privacy |
We do not sell, share, or monetize your data. We do not use analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs. There are no third-party libraries that collect or transmit data.
Does Mumble collect location data?
No. Mumble does not request, access, or collect your location.
Does Mumble use Artificial Intelligence?
Yes — locally. Mumble performs on-device keyword extraction and pattern analysis to generate reflections and mood tags. No external AI services are used. Your entries are never sent to any AI provider.
Subscriptions and payments
Mumble offers a free tier (3 entries per day) and an optional premium subscription ($4.99/month or annual equivalent). All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple via StoreKit. We do not have access to your payment method, billing address, or any financial information. Subscription management is available in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device.
Data retention and deletion
Your journal data remains on your device until you choose to delete it. You can:
- Delete individual entries at any time
- Delete all data via Settings → Delete All Data
- Uninstall the app to remove all locally stored data
Since Mumble does not have servers, deletion is immediate, complete, and irreversible.
Data export
You can export all your journal entries as JSON or Markdown directly from the Settings screen. The export file is generated on-device and saved to your chosen location — it never passes through any server.
Opt-out
You can stop all data processing by uninstalling the application using the standard uninstall process available on your device or via the App Store. Since no data leaves your device, uninstalling removes everything.
Children's privacy
Mumble is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since Mumble does not collect data, if a child uses the app, no data is transmitted to us.
You must be at least 16 years of age to consent to the processing of your personal information (or your parent or guardian may consent on your behalf in applicable countries).
Security
Since all data is stored exclusively on your device, security is primarily determined by your device's own protections — passcode, Face ID, and Apple's hardware encryption. Mumble does not have access to your data and therefore cannot expose it through a data breach.
Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. We will update the effective date at the top of this page when changes are made. Continued use of the Application after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
